FAQS
-
What is the purpose of a lifting belt?
A lifting belt acts as a tool to increase intra-abdominal pressure by giving your core muscles something to brace against as the abdominal wall expands. The stability that a belt provides explains why most lifters can lift more with one than without.
-
What's the difference between a leather lifting belt and a nylon lifting belt?
If you're all about heavy compound lifts or plan to compete in a powerlifting meet, leather might be your best bet. But if you're looking for a versatile belt that can handle a variety of exercises, including Olympic weightlifting and HIIT style workouts, go with nylon. Read more about how to pick the best belt for you here.
-
How does the locking mechanism work?
The knurled locking mechanism allows for quick and easy adjustments for loosening and tightening the belt. Wear it tight and secure for your heavy lifts, without worrying about the belt failing due to overtightening. Then quickly loosen it when it’s time to lift lighter weight; simply undo the fastener and pull on the buckle. The end of the hook-and-loop strap has a small tab that doesn't secure to the belt. This pull tab allows you to quickly change the tightness, which is especially beneficial for HIIT-style training, where you often move between different weights. It’s easy to retighten the belt again when needed. Change the tightness quickly and easily without ever having to take the belt off.
-
How do I pick the right size of belt?
Measure the size of your waist – the circumference where you want to wear the belt -- while you’re in your workout clothing. Generally, you want to center the belt over your belly button. If your measurements fall in between sizes, go with the smaller option. Nylon Lifting Belt sizes are as follows: small (28-36.5”), medium (32-40.5”), large (36-44.5”), x-large (40-48.5”), and xx-large (44-52.5”).
-
How tight do I need to cinch my belt?
You don’t need to yank on your belt like a corset. A too-tight belt can actually inhibit your ability to fully expand your torso to create tension. The belt should fit snugly as you brace, but not be overly tight before you brace. The purpose of a lifting belt is to provide a cue for you to brace against – internally.
-
Does this belt adhere to IWF rules?
Yes! The International Weightlifting Federation specifies its competition-approved belts are no more than 12cm wide; this belt is 10.2cm (4”). Typical weightlifting belts are 10cm wide for back support but taper off in the front. In addition, a typical weightlifting belt is 10-13cm thick, with the thicker option providing extra support, but it can be a bit uncomfortable. REP’s belt falls right in the sweet spot – 11mm -- providing the best amount of support without sacrificing comfort.
-
Does this belt work with a utility loop?
Yes, you can use the Nylon Lifting Belt with REP's USA Leather Utility Loop to attach to a cable machine or weights, as well as add resistance to bodyweight exercises, such as weighted dips, weighted pull-ups, belt squats, sled pulls, and more.
-
Does the Nylon Lifting Belt have a warranty?
Yes, it has a one-year warranty.
