Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, which bench is the way to go?
Shopping for new home gym equipment, like an adjustable bench, can send you down a research k-hole — suddenly you're 20 tabs deep and questioning what day it is.
But some choices are easier than others. For bodybuilders, seasoned gym-goers, and beginners alike, an adjustable weight bench is a no-brainer home gym staple. REP's AB-4100 and Nighthawk™ are two top contenders, but which one is right for you? We'll break down the specs, features, and key differences so you can decide which bench deserves a spot in your gym.
AB-4100 and Nighthawk ™ Specs
While the Nighthawk™ is essentially an upgraded version of the AB-4100, the two benches share a lot of similarities: closed ladder-style adjustments rather than pin-style, upright storage capabilitites, rear transport wheels, and seat heights that are both within standard for the International Powerlifting Federation.
"The Nighthawk is a true refinement and upgrade of the AB-4100," says Adam Brandt, Product Marketing Manager here at REP. "It introduces meaninful functional improvements, all while aiming to keep the price increase minimal." Still, a few small differences could sway your decision.

Quick Comparison: AB-4100 vs. Nighthawk ™
At first glance, these two adjustable benches seem nearly identical — both are compact, available in a wide variety of colors, and feature a sturdy tri-pod design that allows you to get your feet under the bench during your chest press. But here's where they differ:
- AB-4100 is less expensive. However, upgrading to the Nighthawk ™ is only an additional $50.
- Nighthawk™ adds decline capabilitites. The decline seat adjustment provides a -15 degree seat angle so you can tackle decline bench press and more.
- AB-4100 has a more compact footprint. It takes up only 7.2 SQFT while the Nighthawk ™ — a relatively compact weight bench — takes up 9.2 SQFT.
- Nighthawk™ increases stability. The Nighthawk™ seat is 25.9" compared to the AB-4100's 20.3" seat width.
- Nighthawk ™ is attachment-ready. Unlike the AB-4100, the Nighthawk™ is ready to transform, and is compatible with soon-to-be released attachments such as an all-new Leg Curl/Leg Extension Bench Attachment and an updated Bench Leg Roller.

REP AB-4100 vs Nighthawk ™: Which Adjustable Bench is Right for You?
"Both the AB-4100 and Nighthawk™ are for the customer who prioritizes maneuvarability and simplicity," says Brandt. However, you still may be torn between which one is right for you.
If you're tight on space and working with an even tighter budget, the AB-4100 may be the right choice to support your strength training. However, if you're wanting an adjustable bench with a wider range of capabilitites — decline seat adjustments and attachment capabilities — we'd recommend opting for the "extra versatility" provided by the Nighthawk™.
And if you're still struggling to pick the right adjustable bench for your training (no shame, I've been trapped at the grocery store for hours deciding between cottage cheese brands), check out our adjustable bench comparison guide.
