FAQ

What are change plates and when should I use them?

Change plates are small, precise plates that let you add fine increments to the bar when 5–10 lb jumps are too big, keeping progressive overload on track—especially for bench and overhead press. REP® Change Plates make it easy to hit exact numbers your program calls for.

What’s the difference between change plates and fractional plates?

Fractional plates enable micro-loading in tiny steps, while change plates cover slightly larger but still small increases; many lifters use both to smooth progression. See our guide to fractional vs. change plates.

Should I choose LB or KG plates?

Match what you train and track with: competitors often prefer KG to mirror meet standards, while most home gyms stick with LB to match existing plates. REP offers both LB and KG change plates and fractional sets so your increments align with your setup.

Are these plates compatible with my barbell and other plates?

Yes—REP® Change and Fractional Plates are designed for Olympic barbells with 2" sleeves and stack fine alongside iron or bumper plates. Load your main plates first and use change plates on the outside for quick adjustments.

How many change plates do I need for a home gym?

Most lifters start with one pair of each increment they’ll actually use on both sides of the bar, then add extra small pairs if they micro-load often or train with a partner. This keeps sessions efficient while covering the jumps your program requires.
